Zoho Books
Zoho Books is the best-value cloud ledger for most Ghanaian SMEs: a real free plan, paid plans from about GH₵175 a month billed annually, three users included, and inventory from Professional. It does not certify GRA E-VAT invoices on its own, so VAT-registered businesses still need GRA’s system or an integrator.

What it actually is
Zoho Books is a cloud accounting app, not payroll and not an ERP. The strength is price and the rest of Zoho. Nigerian VAT can be modelled; NRS e-invoicing and NTA 2025 PAYE are not what you are buying.
Features
| Feature | Coverage | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Invoicing | Core strength | The job it does well for an SME: send, chase, record. |
| Double-entry ledger | Strong | A real ledger at a lower list price than QuickBooks. |
| Bookkeeping | Strong | Bank rules and recurring bills; chart is yours to Nigerian-ise. |
| Financial reports | Strong | Tax and P&L reports exist. They are not NRS return packs. |
| Multi-currency | Present | Professional and above on the public plan chart. |
| Inventory | Present | Higher plans / Elite. Not Odoo-style MRP. |
| Accountant portal | Present | Accountant access exists; the network is thinner than Intuit’s. |
| VAT | Present | Rates and VAT reports. Filing remains with NRS. |
| Bank feeds | Limited | Depends on Zoho’s banking partners. Test GTBank/Access/Zenith. |
| WHT | Limited | Can be a tax or a bill line. Not a Nigerian WHT schedule. |
| E-invoicing | Limited | Reseller pages claim connectors. Verify on a live tenant. |
| Payroll / PAYE | Not offered | Payroll is a separate Zoho app and is not NTA 2025. |
| Spend / cards | Limited | Expense modules exist in the suite. Books itself is a ledger. |

Migration notes

What does Zoho Books cost in cedis?
At GH₵11.65 per dollar, Standard is about GH₵175 a month billed annually, Professional about GH₵466 and Premium about GH₵699. Prices are per organisation, not per user, which is why Zoho is usually cheaper than QuickBooks for small teams.
Is Zoho Books good for Ghanaian VAT?
Good enough for the ledger. Set VAT 15%, NHIL 2.5% and GETFund 2.5% (all recoverable since January 2026). The VAT return itself is still prepared from Zoho’s tax summary and filed with GRA.
Can Zoho Books handle stock?
Professional adds inventory tracking, purchase orders and price lists; Elite adds warehouses and batch/serial tracking. For multi-branch retailers, pair with Zoho Inventory or move to an ERP.

- How to choose accounting software in Ghana
- Xero works in Ghana as a clean cloud ledger with a large app marketplace, but it has the thinnest local footprint of the global products: no Ghanaian bank feeds, no E-VAT link and multi-currency only on the top plan. Choose it when your accountant or parent company already runs Xero.
- TallyPrime is a strong fit for Ghanaian traders, pharmacies and distributors who move lots of stock, want a one-time licence instead of a dollar subscription, and have a bookkeeper who knows Tally. E-VAT integration and remote access come through Ghanaian partners.
- Business Central is the natural ERP step for Ghanaian distributors, manufacturers and NGOs that have outgrown QuickBooks or Tally: purchasing, inventory, approvals and the ledger in one cloud system. Budget about GH₵932–GH₵1,282 per full user per month at list, plus a partner for the 2026 VAT structure and an E-VAT connector.
- QuickBooks Online is the most requested cloud ledger among Ghanaian accountants who trained on it or serve foreign-owned clients. You pay in dollars, you configure VAT, NHIL and GETFund yourself, and GRA E-VAT certification needs GRA’s own system or a third-party connector. For inventory-heavy traders, TallyPrime or an ERP is the better fit.
- Tyms is an AI-assisted double-entry ledger built in Lagos and available to Ghanaian businesses at $200 per seat per year (about GH₵2,330). It is strongest on catching up and maintaining books from bank and Mobile Money statements; it is not a GRA E-VAT certification system, and its Ghana footprint is smaller than its Nigerian one. Tyms Inc. publishes this site.
